WORKSHOP ON INCREASING BLOOD AVAILABILITY AND PROVIDING THE HIGHEST DONOR AND PATIENT SAFETY IN TRANSFUSION THERAPY IN EMERGENCY SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES, 7-9 July 2014, Bucharest
The workshop on Increasing blood availability and providing the highest donor and patient safety in transfusion therapy in emergency special circumstances was organised in co-operation with Ministry of Health, Republic of Serbia on behalf of the South-eastern Europe Health Network and RHDC on Accreditation and Continuous Quality Improvement and RHDC on Blood Safety, Oradea, Romania. The Workshop was financial and technical supported by TAIEX – Technical Assistance Information Exchange Instrument of the European Commission.
Aim of the workshop was to increase awareness among SEEHN member states on Directive 2002/98/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 January 2003 setting standards of quality and safety for the collection, testing, processing, storage and distribution of human blood and blood components and amending Directive 2001/83/EC.
Aim was to increase awareness and political/institutional capacities, among SEEHN member states, about the harmonized ways for getting the Highest Patient Safety in Transfusion Therapy in Emergency Special Circumstances (natural disasters as floods, earthquakes massive traffic accidences) at both levels: pre-hospital (blood centers specialists) and hospital (clinicians), based on Bioethical principles.
Key experts who presented their work were: Imad Sandid, ANSM, France; Muylle Ludo, Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products, Belgium; Valentina Hafner, WHO; Rossen Georgiev, Bulgarian Drug Agency, Bulgaria; Danijel Grubešić i Julijana Ljubičić, Croatian Institute for Transfusion Medicine, Croatia; Polonca Mali, Blood Transfusion Centre, Slovenia; Maria Ruseva и Alexandre Berlin, Co-opted Members of the SEE Health Network.
In addition to the above mentioned experts, the workshop was attended by representatives of Albania, Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, The Republika Srpska, Croatia, Israel, Macedonia, Moldova , Montenegro, Romania, Serbia who represented their experiences in the field of patient and donor safety, transfusion therapy in emergency special circumstances, legislation and developments in this area.
For the first time, representatives of Kosovo* and Turkey took participation on TAIEX Workshop.
